Adaptive Therapeutic Riding
Adaptive riding, also called therapeutic riding, is a fun and safe horsemanship experience designed especially for children and adults with physical, emotional, cognitive, or developmental challenges. While the participant enjoys riding, they also build:
-
Strength & Balance
-
Confidence & Communication
-
Focus & Independence
-
Emotional Connection & Joy
Adaptive riding is an accessible recreational activity with therapeutic benefits. It is led by
a trained riding instructor with experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Our lessons can include unmounted and mounted activities including riding, grooming, tacking, horse knowledge, and other horsemanship skills.
Who we serve
We serve anyone age 4 and above who are interested in learning horsemanship skills. Some populations we serve include those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, Muscular Dystrophy's, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Multiple Sclerosis, and more!
Benefits of Adaptive Riding
Adaptive riding offers a wide range of benefits for participants—physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially. While our role is not that of therapists, our emphasis is on teaching horsemanship skills. Even so, horseback riding and related equine activities naturally promote many positive outcomes, including:
-
Enhancing balance, posture, and coordination
-
Gently stretching tight muscles
-
Building core strength important for walking
-
Supporting cognitive engagement through motor planning tasks
-
Stimulating the vestibular, nervous, and circulatory systems
-
Providing varied opportunities for tactile integration
-
And much more…
